I create functional and decorative pots in slip-painted red earthenware, stoneware,
and porcelain, from thrown forms, and slabs.
I enjoy cooking and like to make pots that people will want to use when they cook for friends.
I enjoy making a variety of forms, including leaf platters,
olive dishes, wedding jugs, wall pockets, salt rocks, toad houses and tree faces.
My leaf platters are made from individual Princess Tree leaves,
some of which are large enough to use for serving cake.
Olive dishes are decorated with slip painted olive branches.
They're made with a smaller section for the olive pits.
Wedding jugs are two spouted vessels,
with a leather strap tied in a love knot for hanging on the wall.
Tree face features can be mixed and matched to create a wide range of expressions.
My new passion is learning to play the violin,
which has inspired me to create a line of mugs as stringed instruments.
My violin, viola, cello, and bass mugs are made from brown stoneware
and glazed with a nutmeg glaze and satin black accents
that gives them the look of polished wood.
I began studying pottery in 1998,
and have taken several classes and workshops in North Carolina.
My pots are fired with propane in a small commercial kiln at my Durham studio.
