Lois Sharpe
I started with clay more than 20 years ago. My pottery has evolved from simple pieces to intricate one-of-a-kind sculpted originals. I consciously work to keep my pottery fresh, and feel my passion for this medium is reflected in the finished piece.
All of my pottery is made with attention to detail, form, function, and beauty. It must look good, feel good, and be durable. Each piece is made and designed as "one of a kind," and can beautifully stand by itself. However, items can be made in multiples, but each piece will be unique.
Leaf Bowls: Stoneware clay is cut into the shape of oak leaves, textured with bark and formed into bowls. Glazed in a summer green, with warm toasty clay left to show. Unique, functional and beautiful.
Sea Vessels: Using pure, white porcelain, I wheel throw, pull, stretch, twist sculpt, and finally glaze the clay. My unique crater glaze is a combination of chemicals reacting to the intense heat of a gas kiln, reduction fired to over 2300F. The fire gives life to the glaze, creating a rare, barnacle-like texture. Most pieces are fired two to three times to achieve the desired effect.
Thank you for your interest in my pottery. I work out of my home studio, visitors welcome just call for an appointment.
